Socially Isolated but learning new skills

in my one metre square studio

14 daily paintings in cold wax and oil

Still at home #sociallyisolating in week 10. I'd like to say I have been painting all day every day but most of my time has been spent creating an online platform for my #business, Happy Planet so that we can trade until it's safe to open the doors again. It's been a very time consuming process with over 400 products made by myself and other artists and makers to list but I have kept up my daily 20 minute painting.

The series you can see here was created using #oilpaint and #coldwaxmedium. It 's an interesting process in which the oil paints is mixed with a the soft wax medium and applied. It's possible to work with it in the soft stage as you apply it, or allow it to dry and then you can carve back into it to show the layers beneath, or create marks that will show after further #layers.

You can see the series taped to a board at the beginning, where random #marks have been made with oil pastels before adding either turquoise paint and wax or, the transparent blue glaze layer. The two close ups either side show the marks made into the glaze layer, which is a #transparent oil paint.

The next pictures show close ups of the finished paintings, after seven layers or medium and carving back into the applied colours. Working in small scale such as these, 7 x 5 inches, allows me to #experiment and not worry about the outcomes, as if I don't like anything I can just add another layer and keep going.

I have started a new series in a different set of colours ans will share that in another post.

Whatever happens in my studio (wherever it's based) I shall write about it here on my #blog so you can join me on the journey if you wish by subscribing, or following me on social media.
