Past and present
a personal abstraction
I started to see a psychotherapist last year to help me cope with the loss of my speech, which has been very helpful. Our conversations are interesting and varied. I think it helps that she is an art lover. If you are wondering how I speak to her, we use zoom and I use the chat feature.
This painting I am sure stems from one of those conversations, which was how things have changed for me in the last year, as when I began working with her I was at a very low point.
I was in my studio a few days later busy with a sculpture and the and the answer to the question began to form in my head in a series of colours.
Previously I had felt drained, detached and very definitely depressed. I could see myself as cold and frozen almost lifeless in a way, as living like that is, in my mind, existing rather than living.
However that was then. Presently things feel improved. I made changes to facilitate that and so as I moved back to living and recovering some hope for the future and perhaps even my voice later this year.
The colours change as they warm up with life and hope. As in previous painting that have something of me in them, I have used metal leaf to show my energy, silver in the first figure and gold in the present.
The animation shows some of the stages of creating the painting
The painting is on 50cm x 50cm cradled wood panel and was created in mixed media, using acrylic paints, metal leaf and oil pastels.
Past and Present
Whatever happens in my studio, or wherever else I create, I shall write about it here on my #blog so you can join me on the journey if you wish by subscribing, or following me on social media.
